"Quarantine Pilot vs The League of Extraordinary Djentlemen "
A ridiculous title for a ridiculous song.
Generally speaking, 2020 has kinda sucked balls. Being stuck inside will drive you crazy after awhile, and it's good to have an outlet like music to make something productive out of all this quarantine business.
Unfortunately for me, I was going on about three years of writers block, and hadn't written an new tune in all that time. So a lot of good this free time was doing me, mostly just reminding me of how much I sucked.
But one morning, a riff appeared. I liked it, and the idea hit me that if I could turn it into a song, maybe my equally stuck at home Maritime Pilot ex-bandmates would want to play on it. That could be cool, right? A virtual reunion...yeah, why not? In that respect, we were 4/5 successful, and since I have nowhere else to release this, a Maritime Pilot song it will be.
But why stop there? Henry's bandmate Jon also threw in some guitars, and, because why not, Chris Carrera contributed a minute or so of guitar noise to the meltdown section. I just felt like, for one minute, we needed to be a 4 guitar band. It's not like we ever have to play it live, right?
So here it is. A nine minute new song from a band that has been dead and gone for 7 years, that sounds exactly like what it is - a tribute to what a clusterfuck 2020 has been, and exactly the sort of overkill you'd expect when you haven't written anything since 2017. At the very least it was fun to do.
